Exercise: Walking with God

During the summer children (and adults) experience God in many informal ways. Genesis tells us that God walked with our first parents in the cool of the evening, Jesus came and walked with the disciples on the way to Emmaus. In our days walking with God is a great way to help children see God's love through nature and daily life. Here is a short exercise that you can do as a family or as individuals:
Step One
Set aside a period of time when you will not answer photos or email. Reserve this time for God and family
Step Two
Go out into your yard or if you do not have access to your own yard, you can use a nearby park. Ask the children to look closely at everything they see. When they see something that draws their attention, have them write about why they think God gave them that gift? Do as many different things as time allows
Step Three
When the time is up, gather everyone together and have them share what they saw, why they think God gave humanity that gift and what they learned about God through their "walk"
Step Four
Close by thanking God in your own words for the gifts received.
